This February, I invite you to join me and the team at Tree of Life in uplifting ourselves and those around us during International Boost Self-Esteem Month. Its goal is to encourage individuals to focus on building their self-esteem and improving their sense of self-worth. This month serves as a reminder to practice self-love, challenge negative thoughts, and embrace positive changes in how we view ourselves.
But what is self esteem exactly? It refers to the way we view ourselves and our sense of self-worth. It involves how we value our abilities, qualities, and overall identity. People with healthy self-esteem generally feel confident, worthy, and capable of handling life’s challenges, while those with low self-esteem may struggle with self-doubt, self-criticism, and feelings of inadequacy.
Self-esteem can be influenced by a variety of factors, such as:
Past experiences: Positive or negative feedback from family, friends, and peers can shape how we view ourselves.
Personal achievements: Successes, big or small, can boost our confidence.
Social comparisons: Comparing ourselves to others (especially in today’s social media age) can affect how we feel about ourselves.
Internal beliefs: Our inner dialogue and the way we talk to ourselves play a huge role in self-esteem.
The good news is there are many ways to engage in activities and exercises aimed at overcoming the above challenges to boost confidence and recognize our value.
Examples include:
Journaling positive affirmations or accomplishments.
Setting healthy boundaries.
Practicing self-compassion and mindfulness.
Engaging in activities that make you feel good, whether it's a hobby, exercise, or spending time with supportive people.
We encourage you to practice these activities daily, and to focus on positivity not only during this month, but always. If you’re interested in discussing your self esteem and how to engage further in the above practices, call (337) 703-2806 or book a consultation online today.
